The Time Portal

A new way to listen to time

Time is not only something your clients talk about. It is something they move through, remain inside, look back upon, run out of, hold onto and organise their lives around. The Time Portal is Andrew T. Austin’s advanced exploration of the language, perception and embodied metaphors of time.

Why this course exists

People reveal their relationship with time in almost every conversation

The past may intrude, the future may loom, opportunities may pass, moments may be held and identities may become fixed. The words can sound ordinary while the organisation beneath them is anything but. This programme develops your ability to notice how time is structured in language, space, attention and experience, then to work with greater precision.

  1. 01

    Hear temporal structure

Become more attentive to direction, distance, rate, movement, containment and orientation in the way a person describes experience.

  2. 02

    Think beyond the timeline

Examine linear, cyclical, concurrent and competing arrangements of time without reducing the work to a single model.

  3. 03

    Connect language and perception

Explore how metaphor, hemispheric processing, attention, memory, risk and bodily experience contribute to the felt reality of time.

The learning journey

From the architecture of time to its expression in everyday life

The curriculum moves across conceptual teaching, perceptual phenomena, clinical observation, cultural structures, dream examples and applied integration.

Temporal organisation

Linear and cyclical experience, In-Time and Through-Time, contextual-concurrent timelines, temporal displacement, containment and permanence.

Metaphor and identity

Direction, distance, movement, boundaries, atmospheres, burdens, obstructions, elevations and the acquisition of identity.

The development of the calendar, the days of the week, the months of the year and the metaphorical associations carried within them.

Application and integration

Dream examples, practical synthesis, recorded webinars and question-and-answer sessions that bring the material together.

Some of the themes covered in this unique and original training…

  • The 25800-year-long story arc: planetary precession, storytelling and prophecy
  • Timelines: proprioceptive and spatial organisation of time
  • The passage of time, time dilation and constriction
  • Data distribution and information density in metaphor according to individual time predication
  • Cognitive dissonance and the failure of fortune-telling and future divination
  • Active/passive/proactive/reactive time strategies

Created and taught by Andrew T. Austin

The Time Portal is the sixth level of Metaphors of Movement training. Andrew brings together clinical observation, metaphorical language, perceptual psychology, neuroscience and the often-overlooked ways in which people locate themselves in relation to time.

The result is a characteristically wide-ranging programme for practitioners who want to sharpen their observation, extend their conceptual range and encounter familiar client language with fresh precision.
